TKE Host 2nd Annual Turkey Bowl

Over the weekend on Saturday, November 6th Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) hosted the 2nd Annual Turkey Bowl to benefit the Daily Bread. Wondering what the Turkey Bowl is? Well, it's powder puff football played by the sororities on campus (Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Chi Omega, and Delta Nu Kappa). The coaches and refs are members of TKE.

The first round games paired Alpha Phi against Alpha Sigma Alpha and Chi Omega against Delta Nu Kappa. Alpha Phi won against Alpha Sigma Alpha and Chi Omega won against Delta Nu Kappa. In the second round, Alpha Sigma Alpha played Delta Nu Kappa, and Alpha Phi (last year's champions) played Chi Omega (last year's runner-ups) once again in the championship game. The final score of the championship game was 14-12, Chi Omega.

I was lucky enough to play for Alpha Phi this year, and let me tell you, it was way more intense than I was expecting. I had played powder puff football in high school, so I kind of knew what I was doing. We had a few practices during two weeks before the game. Came up with silly names for our plays and enjoyed the time with our sisters. Then came game day...

Our first game went really well. Our offense had plenty of touchdowns and our defense was strong, preventing ASA from getting any touchdowns. We won that game and we were extremely proud with how well we all played. Next up, we were facing Chi Omega.

We knew the championship game was going to be harder. We had been watching the Chi-Os play against DNK and noting their plays. We could figure out who their key runners were and who they were throwing the ball to the most. As the game started Chi-Os offensive ripped through our defense and managed to get an early touchdown. Later on in the first half, the Chi-Os got a second touchdown, being up 14-0. We managed to come back in the second half. Our defense was stronger, and our offense was getting some long runs. In the end, we fell short because on both touchdowns we failed at getting the extra point. It was a great game over all. Really intense and I'm sure for the audience, enjoyable to watch.

Congrats to all the sororities that played and to Chi Omega, the 2010 Turkey Bowl Champions!
