# 1 Up-and-Coming Baccalaureate in Midwest

In its 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report ranks Adrian College as the number one Up-and-Coming Baccalaureate College in the Midwest for the second year in a row. The College is also listed as 23rd in the Midwest region in its “Best Baccalaureate Colleges” section. Ranking information can be found at www.usnews.com.

“Our selection as the number one Up-and-Coming College in the Midwest strongly affirms the changes we continue to make at the College,” said Dr. Jeffrey R. Docking, president of Adrian College. “Adrian College continues its rapid ascent as one of the premier private, selective colleges in the United States. Students and alumni should be proud of how our rapid growth and expansion has resulted in more highly qualified students.”

According to U.S. News, top college officials identified 77 colleges and universities throughout the country as schools that have recently made the most promising and innovative changes in academics, faculty, students, campus, or facilities.

These 77 institutions were ranked with other schools within the same categories used for the regular U.S. News rankings. Under the baccalaureate college category, Adrian was named as the number one school to watch in the Midwest.

For the past two years, Adrian College has been categorized differently, moving from “Best Liberal Arts Colleges” to “Best Baccalaureate Colleges.” There are 320 baccalaureate colleges within four regions: North, South, Midwest, and West. The Midwest category consists of 48 schools.

The U.S. News identifies baccalaureate colleges as those institutions that “focus on undergraduate education and offer a range of degree programs – in the liberal arts, which account for fewer than half of their bachelor’s degrees, and in professional fields such as business, nursing, and education.”

The College continues to thrive with exceptionally qualified students and an experienced faculty in the top of their fields. The campus community is proud of this accomplishment and is honored to be ranked in such prestigious categories.

“We thank U.S. News for recognizing the spectacular improvements at Adrian College in recent years and how these improvements translate into higher academic credentials in our student body,” said Docking.
