Mackinaw Trip

Adrian College Class of 2013 took over Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island August 20th-21st. Despite the rain, students enjoyed the 3rd annual freshman class trip and developed new friendships through this unique bonding experience!

Students were given one ferry pass aboard the Star Line Hydro-Jet ferry to transport them to the historic Mackinac Island. With over 500 Adrian College students on the trip, lines were often long, but this encouraged students to strike up conversations with their peers.

The Star Line Hydro-Jet ferry provides riders with an unique riding experience to the island. The ferry shoots out a 35' spout of water looking like a rooster tail from the rear of the boat that can be easily viewed from the shore or from the open air observation decks. Individuals who were not big fans of sitting "on top" of the boat took advantage of the glass enclosed cabins where the ride was not as bumpy.

The main modes of transportation on the island are: riding in carriages, walking, and bike riding.

Once on the island, many students took advantage of the discounted bike rental rate for members of the Adrian College community...riders had to pay close attention to all the road apples!

Upperclassmen who serve as Welcome Week Leaders during Welcome Week also get to go on this annual trip to Mackinaw and participate in the various activities available on the mainland and on the island.

Back on the main land students walked the streets of Mackinaw City browsing local merchants shops and tasting the local eats.

Animal Tracks Adventure Golf discounted the fee for Adrian College individuals to play a round of mini-golf. When the sun was shining, many students took advantage of this semi-challenging course complete with waterfalls and rock bridges!

Searching for the perfect souvenir, students headed to the downtown shopping district. Conveniently located within walking distance from the hotels. Shops within Mackinaw Crossings provided AC students with coupon booklets for specific discounts on items like tote bags, ice cream, and that Mackinac Island classic...fudge!

After a long day of exploring the island or walking through downtown Mackinaw City, students were invited to pizza parties located in hotels along the main strip in the city. Nonna Lisa's Italian Restaurante made sure that the hungry freshmen were provided with dozens and dozens of oven fresh pizzas and leafy green salads.
