Welcome Back Everyone!
If we haven't met, my name is Katie Watkins - and I am the Student Activities Coordinator here at Adrian College. One of the main parts of my job is that I plan events (like Homecoming, Family Weekend, etc.) and advise SGA and CAN (the Student Government Association and Campus Activities Network), the groups that plan and organize many of the different activities that occur on campus.
I decided that hanging fliers and making signs is good, but starting a blog could be even better! This way I can update YOU about activities as they come up - and you can have it all of that information at your fingertips.

Jay Black started life as a high school teacher. He was happy and he was talented: in six years of teaching, Mr. Black racked up two local teacher of the year nominations and one nomination for the prestigious Disney award for excellence in teaching. Jay always wanted to try standup, though, and it wasn't long before he took the same high energy act he used in the classroom into the night clubs. It was an easy transition: After entertaining teenagers (the hardest audience in the world) every day, five shows a day for years and years, the nightclub audiences seemed tame by comparison. "It was like swinging two bats in the on-deck circle", Jay says with a grin, "teaching high school was the best education I could get on how to be a stand-up comic." Jay quickly shot up the ranks of the Philadlephia stand-up scene, going from his first open-mic to his first paid gig much more quickly than the norm. Within his first year, he had performed in such notable clubs as The Comedy Zone, Rascals, Dangerfields, Stand-Up NY, Carolines, and many others. He got to open for luminaries such as Jim Norton, Otto and George, Ross Bennet, Victoria Jackson, and Bob Nelson. Jay also began performing at colleges and universities around the country. He's been heard on countless college radio programs and profiled in nearly a dozen college newspapers. In 2003, Jay won Delaware's comedian of the year award and was profiled on Comcast. He also won the regional tournament of the Captain's of Comedy contest and had his comedy shown on UPN. In 2004, Jay won the first ever "Make it or Break it" contest on Philadelphia's number one radio station WMMR. Recently, Jay has been tapped as a writer on the Richie Byrne Show, a comedy revue starring notables for Sex and the City and the Sopranos. He's also been added as a featured columnist on both collegehumor.com and thecollegeweb.com, two sites that boast thousands of hits from college students every day. On stage, Jay still exudes the cool of every student's favorite teacher. Jay is always friendly and accessible, even when he's pointing out bits about our daily life that usually make us blush. He exudes likeability while never losing command of the audience.
Come on out and enjoy some Comedy!
Have a great week everyone!
